LGO teamed with GLAAD, Oakland Promise and the Golden State Warriors Community Foundation recently for a $1,000 Target shopping spree. Arthur and Warriors player JaValle McGee worked together to help assist the fortunate during this holiday season. It’s always wonderful to give back, especially during the holiday and it’s always a pleasure to working with Oakland Promise.
We helped the feeding efforts for San Francisco’s The City Eats event on Thanksgiving to give meals to the homeless. Arthur helped with preparing and distributing the food. He took time to hit the streets and go person to person to make sure everyone without a warm home on Thanksgiving had a warm meal. It was humbling to go out and help bring food to those that are less fortunate or have been displaced and we hope to continue our efforts within our community next season. We h
We teamed up with former NBA superstar Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf to demonstrate our wheelchair basketball techniques to the kids at Jamtown in Oakland. We shared our positive message of inspiration as every player told of their experiences and how they grew to overcome their disabilities to succeed. It felt remarkable to reach out to the kids in our community and share our message of hope and perseverance.
Kevin Durant met with Arthur again recently at a Warriors game and the two discussed efforts to raise community awareness of our movement in helping rid our society of the terror of gun violence. We are very happy to see our Golden State Warriors succeeding into the season and look forward to working with the Warriors organization in our efforts at changing the world. My colleague Jorge Sanchez and I performed a wheelchair basketball demo and hosted a match between the kids at the San Francisco Juvenile Hall and SFPD officers. We were humbled by the apperance of 3x NBA Champion Bill Cartwright who assisted Jorge and I in speaking to the kids. We motivated the kids with stories of our experiences and explained how with effort, discipline and the will to learn they can help make our world a better place and build successful, prosperous lives
Last week I visited McClymonds High School in Oakland where I spoke to hundreds of students about the effects of gun violence on our community and my experiences with going around inspiring others to enlighten our society to our greatest potential. Lots of students told me stories of times in there lives where they had to confront the challenges no matter the situation and I felt like we worked together to inspire each other to build a better world. Their hope inspires me.
Hi everyone! Please check out the new LIFE GOES ON FOUNDATION documentary about a year in my life. My friends at (Storytellers for Good) and (Polar Productions) followed me around for a year and created this beautiful story of hope and perseverance. This incredible journey to completion started by chance as one day I was spreading my message door-to-door about my non-profit organization and my life story when I happened to knock on the door of (TED) who offered to help my fou
